London Cardinals Newsletter: 17.10.11 – Money, money, money!
Posted on October 26th, 2011 by Jessica Forster in Uncategorized“You have come to the hottest ticket in town for Monday night!” Our proudest President, Jessie Macneil-Brown, opened the evening by praising Laura McCracken who came third in the Division B Humorous Speech round.
“Fantastic things are going to happen here tonight!” Danny Callaghan, Toastmaster for the evening, set the theme – winning the lottery: “What would you buy if you won £101 Million in the Lottery?”
Our Timekeeper – Richard Russell – explained the Timekeeper role, “I’m the Timekeeper, it’s like being a bee keeper but different – instead of keeping bees, I’m keeping time”. Dara Lanlehin, Grammarian, set the word of the evening: ‘resplendent’.
Gino Coquis Ortiz, Table Topics Master, kept with the evening’s theme of winning the lottery. Jo Holmes: no better way to spend the day then being in a bookshop; Nigel Cutts: wants a house on the beach in Mauritius, plus a private jet to get him there, “if I could really afford it I’d go there every month”. Sally Maier-Yip: flying friends and family to Hong Kong for a big party. Trang Le: Buying a house in Hanoi. Deborah Henley: Do men or women spend more money? Gary Cooke: “when you see something you really want – buy it. Because you’ll always regret if it you don’t!” Monica Chong: sharing a lottery win with ex-partners. Simon O’Mahony: keeping a lottery win a secret or not. Wonu Sanda (guest): people should play the lottery because you just might win. Carlos Gonzalez (guest): “It’s all about the happiness and thrill of winning the lottery.” Alison O’Mahony: the downside of winning the lottery is when people ask for hand outs. “I know my friends like me because I’m not going to be handing out cash.”
